Alexander the Great Monument in Athens

Planning: 2007
Commissioner: Development Association of Athens Municipality

The statue, a work by sculptor Yannis Pappas, depicts Alexander the Great on horseback.
The monument’s layout is a linear course of alternate levels, which are gradually ascending to end up on a terminal level where there is founded the pedestal of the statue which seems as if rising up from a hill.
The statue’s footstall, on the pedestal, lays partly projected, in order to give the impression that the equestrian statue stands on the top of the hill from where he is gazing forward, after a march, to the world laying ahead.
The proposed planting of the hill around the statue creates a protective green lane for the exclusion of visual interference from the surroundings.
On the pedestal, there is provision for a wreath laying level.
